Season 2 Episode 10 Dec 21, 2016
Find Meaning
This is the part 2 (of 2) of our interview with Father John Misty's Josh Tillman. Hear the part one!
As always, this, the ultimate episode of season 2, is delivered to your doorstep in time for the holidays by Sub Pop Podcast luminaries Alissa Atkins and Arwen Nicks, from the dimly lit but only slightly creepy Sub Pop Podcast studio.
Show Notes
This is part two of a very special, season-ending two-parter episode (listen to part one here) where Arwen talked to Josh Tillman of Father John Misty for five to fifteen hours (of which we get to hear just over an hour).
Josh Tillman (continued)
All righty. If you’re just joining, be sure to get up to speed with the notes for part 1, a/k/a episode 9, the first half of this whole.
Here we have an Insta Gram of Josh on Josh. This is taken in the Sub Pop headquarters. Why we have a cardboard cutout of Josh Tillman in the office, I don’t know. (We also have Obama. I’ll tell you: it’s startling when you walk into the office bathroom, the automatic lights turn on and there’s a life size cardboard cutout of a human being right in front of you. Very “funny stuff.”)
“I Love You, Honeybear” is the first song on 2015’s I Love You, Honeybear album.
Of course, as I mentioned in the notes to part one, someone as creatively creative as Josh Tillman has many videos you could entertain yourself with.
Josh Tillman is one of 15 writers on the song “Hold Up” from Beyoncé’s Lemonade album.
Some people think it’s the best song on the album. Others disagree.
If you google around on the internet, you can find amazing and weird things. Like this demo of a song Josh wrote for Lady Gaga.
Lady Gaga did this with it. Compare and contrast.
If your interest is piqued (and it should be: the two part interview with Josh is great, in my opinion), there is a ton of stuff on the internet you can find about Josh and Father John Misty. For better or worse, the music “journals” write about him all the time. Here’s a thing:
Finally, here is a/the recommended video of Josh performing on David Letterman.
Here are a couple snapshots of snapshots from Sub Pop’s Silver Jubilee 25th Anniversary Georgetown (Seattle, WA) Takeover, Part 1.
I’m not sure whose face is in that board.
Fear Fun cover by Stacey Rozich, get it?
That’s all I have for this episode and this season. Thanks again to John Atkins for all the fantastic episode illustrations for season 2!
Until season 3, take care.
